Changing of the Guard is not a new educational web game. It’s the announcement of the peaceful transfer of power as I leave Web Courseworks, the Games Can Teach blog, and e-Learning for a new career in commercial game development with the jolly-smart independent games studio Three Rings.

I am very thankful for the opportunities Web Courseworks has given me, both in practical experience and creative freedom.  Freedom I was able to use to invent new tools like the Conversant Game Engine - which we used to create Play True Challenge and other games. I hope they’ll still be using it after I leave.

I feel especially grateful for the experiences I had giving workshops around the country. It was something I was reluctant to do at first, but it made me find a skill (and enjoyment) for public speaking I didn’t know I had! It was teaching thse workshops that made me formalize my own experiences in Game Based Learning into a more solid theory of practice, which I’ve attempted to share through this blog.

I hope my perspective on the ability of games to be more than just entertainment, but an effective method of education and persuasion, will help me contribute to the art form of commercial video games in my new career.

This blog may experience a brief lull, as new bloggers find time in their schedules, but Games Can Teach will live on with new voices.  So stay subscribed to the RSS and/or Twitter feeds. I know I will be!
